Conservative... Republican... Swinger?!

by Mister E of MONOGAMYSUX
Browse enough profiles on any swinger website and you'll eventually find some that say: 'No Republicans!' or 'Anybody who voted for Bush need not respond!'
Well, I guess that rules us out.
"Politics don't make strange bedfellows, marriage does." – Groucho Marx
A question frequently asked to swingers like us is: 'How it is possible to be both a political conservative and swinger'?
Sex is but one language of love and affections amongst many. As swingers we seek and indulge in proclivities that most would hardly admit they fantasize about or secretly long for. We've come to the conclusion that monogamy sucks. We do not deny ourselves pleasures of flesh regardless of the great love and respect we have for our spouses. We do this without guilt or issues.
Politics ought not come into play (pun intended) in these equations of sexual indulgences and compatibility... but, unfortunately it often does.
Is it really that incongruous that conservatives can be swingers? Personally, I find it odd that there are those who would ask such a question in the first place!
There are many conservatives who are active swingers. I'd guess that the relative number of conservatives amongst your local swinging community is about equal to the relative number of conservatives in the community where you live.
It's our experience that there is not any one major mainstream political leaning that makes people more likely to become swingers. Swingers come in all sizes, shapes, races, religions, affiliations, social and economic background. There are even some conservative politicians who privately swing. The word 'diverse' truly applies to swingers.
My wife and I are political conservatives who have been swinging since the days when sex was still considered safe, drugs were still considered cool and rock still rocked. We've seen a lot.
“I'd guess that the relative number of conservatives amongst your local swinging community is about equal to the relative number of conservatives in the community where you live.”
I'm out as a conservative amongst much of the swinger community as a result of being a frequent participant in a well attended on-line political forum. My wife and I have paid a price for our political candor.
Our personal conservative political leanings are often held against us by prejudiced folks who have never even met us. Others have let us know they're not interested in us on the sole basis that we happen to be conservatives. At parties, folks we've never met sometimes ridicule us with unkind words. We've had abusive things written about us by strangers in swinger forums and many others have sent us hateful e-mails. All on the sole basis of being politically conservative swingers. While this attitude is noteworthy, it has not deterred us.
Case-In-Point: Recently, we met a lovely couple on a swinger site and arranged to meet them at a lifestyle bar takeover. We enjoyed each others company and exchanged phone numbers agreeing to meet again. Shortly thereafter, we met again. After a few glasses of wine we all retired to our place. A great time was had by all, no doubt.
Later that evening in the afterglow of our newly found play friends, the female of the couple went into my office/library and noticed some of the books on my desk that I was currently reading. Upon returning, she boldly asked us: "Oh my God! Are you Republicans!?"
I explained that some platforms of the Republican Party regarding the economy and national defense appealed to us. To which the she replied; "I always swore we'd never play with Republicans!" The comment was quite a slap in the face. But in light of what we had just enjoyed together, that couple has since returned to our home and joyously indulged themselves with us on several various occasions. We must have done something right, because they continue to break their rule.
Questioning how we as conservatives could be swingers is becoming a minor minefield for other conservatives. Many newbies to swinging might be asking themselves if their politics and other personal life choices make them compatible with the swinger's community.
To anyone questioning if they 'belong' in the lifestyle, we say there is no such thing as a 'typical' swinger. If you choose to swing, you belong. You will always find others compatible with yourselves regardless what walk of life you come from.
The question: 'How it's possible to be both politically conservative and a swinger?' is really a poor reflection upon the person asking it. The question is full of misperceptions and stereotypes that a truly tolerant and open-minded person, as most swingers claim to be, ought not to harbor.
To question how a swinger can be politically conservative, is akin to the America of several centuries ago that asked how it's possible that Black people could be taught to read. Both questions show tremendous ignorance, prejudice and intolerance from the person asking the question.
“It's ironic that many swingers are themselves intolerant of certain groups within their own swinging communities. Not exactly what one would expect from self-proclaimed 'open-minded' individuals.”
Politics is an uncommon topic of conversation among swingers. Personal opinions such as these are not usually shared in social lifestyle situations, especially regarding highly charged emotional issues like politics and religion. Do you know every one of your close vanilla friend's political leanings? We certainly don't. Nor do we care to.
"Never hate your enemies, it affects your judgment." – Michael Corleone
Hatred or exclusion of others due to their political leanings ought to be anathema to swingers. After all, swingers engage in behavior that mainstream society rejects, forcing many of us to live 'in the closet' to protect our jobs and careers. We as swingers reluctantly accept this intolerance by mainstream society, because we believe it's unlikely to change anytime soon.
It's therefore ironic that many swingers are themselves intolerant of certain groups within their own swinging communities. Not exactly what one would expect from self-proclaimed 'open-minded' individuals.
It's often said that 'perception is reality.' No place does this seem more true than in the swinger community, where many misperceptions and stereotypes about conservatives are regarded as fact.
As conservative swingers we have been held to some pretty outrageous stereotypes by those who have rejected us. While there's nothing wrong with NASCAR... We personally don't know a thing about it, much to one couple's surprise. We don't hunt nor own guns, despite another couple's assumption that we'd have an arsenal in our home. We don't belong to an evangelical church or any other organized religious group. We don't drive a rusty pick-up truck. In fact, we have recently reduced our consumption of oil/gas being concerned with our impact on the environment. We have no idea what radio station Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity is on. We don't watch FOX news.
However, we wouldn't judge others for any of the above choices.
We are your neighborhood 'Norms' who privately and discretely engage in the same proclivities that many of you do without ever uttering our political thoughts amongst our play friends.
Yet some of our friends still ask us: "How can you vote for a candidate that is against your lifestyle?"
A candidate against our lifestyle?
Would someone tell me again which non-conservative mainstream political party and candidates openly affiliates themselves with and supports swingers??? Who owns the franchise on the swinger vote?... C'mon, someone let me know so I can contribute to their campaign!
From Left to Right, all the political movements seem equally biased against what we do.
"Prejudice is the child of ignorance." – William Hazlitt
Prejudice in the swinging lifestyle is more common than you'd think... Member profiles on swinger websites are full of prejudices that are viewed as acceptable by the swinger community: Seeking Black men only!... Only interested in Single Bi Females!... NO SINGLE MALES!!!
Nobody flinches at any of these statements. Somehow, No Republicans! has now fallen into the same acceptable category of prejudice.
I've read a lot of swinger profiles and have never once seen a profile stating No liberals! or, Democrats need not apply! I've never known a Republican swinger to avoid a playmate due to their politics. Sex knows no politics. We may be political conservatives, but we embrace diversity in the lifestyle; We enjoy fucking Republicans and Democrats alike.
If these hardcore liberal swingers feel the need to reject or alienate others based on their personal political views... Perhaps they are not so "liberal" after all.
In the lifestyle, the only 'party' that should really matter is the one you are going to this weekend.
